Being a professional wrestler is more then just putting on some colourful shorts, throwing your body around and trying to beat the hell out of someone. It's entertainment and overall more fiction then reality. Whether you're in the ring, on the microphone or sat at home with your family, there is always a line between your gimmick and your personality. Whether the fans see it or not is up to the individual.
Today was the first episode of the new Jonny Freeman pod cast, available exclusively on the Thy network. It was an outside look at the person behind the gimmick, a little trash talking and of course, a chance to shoot on current events in the federation. The first episode featured it's first special guest and to add insult to injury, Jonny had requested that I was the first to sit in the hot spot. Something which was sure to annoy the main event stars. Especially the champions, which only made me more happy.
This was my chance to blow apart the fourth wall and leave the fans in shock. This was my chance to prove a point to the Thy network and the superstars in the back. Most of all however, it was my chance to shoot on some behind the scenes information that the fans have no idea about.
I walked through the corridors of the Thy WWE headquarters. Past posters of the bigoted and ignorant superstars, plant pots filled with those terrible fake plants because no one in this building wants any god damn responsibility or they're all too lazy to actually want to water real plants. I studied the fake green leaves, seeing dust and residue from old coffee spills and insects. No one even bothered to clean this play anymore... it was falling apart at the seems.
I turned right and up a flight of stairs until I reached a wooden door with a small golden plague on it. The plague read: "Recording studio 2". A truly thrilling and interesting piece of information, which obviously needed to be on some kind of golden metallic plague. Everyone wonders why the pay checks come in late and this is the fucking reason right here. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea?
I placed my hand on the door and pushed it open, it clicked and creaked slightly as it opened. Even the doors in this place are fucked. I stepped into the room and within seconds was greeted by several young tech heads. Each one wrapping me up in a hundred different wires, offering me food and drinks and ignoring my answer anyway. So I sat down in one of the chairs as Jonny entered from a door behind us, he'd been taking a shit or something. I didn't really want to ask.
He came in, patted me on the back and smiled. He sat down and we briefly discussed the layout of the pod cast, he gave me a chance to plan some answers as well as deciding that I should get some mic time toward the ends of the pod cast. We began recording and Jonny introduced himself, the show and finally, me.
Jonny: "I'm joined by Richard Black otherwise known as FEAR. He's looking real strong right now in Thy and I asked personally for him as we're good friends as well as training partners, so who better to join me then the new me?"
I chuckled, he'd made that comment before. About 2 weeks ago when we were working on a my new finisher, he asked me to do his Rockstar Splash. Naturally I landed it perfectly and we debated for a good hour whether it was worth using it for my new move set. However we decided that I was already "to close to the Rockstar, to use his finisher".
Richard: "Hello, it's a pleasure to be here and I think a lot of people would of expected you to get the Thy WWE champion in here first but then you'd have to settle for second best and that's not the Freeman way."
Jonny smiled at me, sticking up his thumb while evidently holding in a laugh.
Jonny: "I'll make no comment on that but thank you for being here. So lets get started with the easy stuff; how does it feel to be back?"
I cleared my throat slightly, allowing my hand to slowly reach toward my beard before scratching it slightly. Deciding on my answer carefully.
Richard: "There's this thing about Thy that always drags you back, it's great. The locker room is generally a pretty chill environment. Management are just that, management but they aren't always that bad. The talent is varied but it makes for some interesting match ups. Still though, the things that bring you back, they aren't always exactly how you remember."
Jonny nodded.
Jonny: "I think if anyone else was sitting in this room, they'd say that Thy is the best federation in the world. Yet you and me, we've both had our bad times with Thy and like you. I go and I come back. It's a blessing and curse at the same time. Moving on though, lets go back. All the way to the beginning with The Knights. Tell me about all of that."
I let out a sigh and looked up at the ceiling, the fans had no idea that all the information I had was what I had been told. I didn't remember anything about the knights. Edward is the only thing in my life from that time period. I realized that I was taking too long to answer and decided to just retell the second hand information I had been given by Sydney and Dean King.
Richard: "Well as you remember, Thy was full of no hopers and whiny bitches. Each one worse then the last and Sydney King, a good friend of ours approached me with William Chance. You know the millionaire superstar. That had this idea that they wanted to literally unseat Vince and prove to him that he had no ideas what the fans wanted. True or not, this was my break into the business, this was my chance to go mainstream. Anger wasn't happy, not until the first show that went out live. We came from the Indy circuit so we were used to putting our asses on the line every night. Sydney walks into LRW with Chance and they ask us if we're interested, say that they'd seen us do the most amazing things in the ring. That they needed us and they gave us our first masks.
We came and met Barton, Gunn, Beno. We sat down and spoke about shit and storyline. We partied harder then evolution. We conquered but the problem was, Vince never liked me. This guy literally hates me. I walked into his office the day that Kurt Orton caused all that drama and attacked another roster member unscripted. I mean we have a policy, we have rules and Vince told me that I was over stepping and that I was interfering. He gave Kurt a one match holiday and told him to watch his attitude. The guy literally attacks someone backstage and nothing is done about it. It's a dangerous environment and I don't want to work in a place that is an unsafe work place. So Anger and I quit. We told Vince that we weren't interested anymore. He got emotional, he realized he'd just lost two of the biggest names in his federation, he offered me his hand and I spat in his face. Walked out and told him I never wanted back in.
Anger and I went to Japan and we tore it up man, then Anger had some health issues and the only way I could pay the medical bills was to go back into the ring, I wanted to look after my best friend. So I held my hands up and told Vince what he wanted to hear. Next thing you know, more shit is happening backstage and the work environment is getting worse. Injury after injury and the guys didn't give a shit. I had one guy kick me so hard in the face that my jaw is now 2 millimeters to left. I no longer have a straight jaw because no one in the back or in the lockeroom was regulating anything, everyone was too busy just too busy being 'famous'. I went away again and then I heard that it was a littler bit different. Superstars were starting to speak out and some nights, no one turned up for training or shows or whatever. Vince had to fucking make a change. I was coming back from a small hospital in Tokyo and I needed a job, there is only one thing I'm good at, beating the shit out of people in the name of entertainment. Now I could of gone to the octagon and walked in and been fucking huge."
Jonny allowed me to shoot slightly in my story. Allowing the fans to finally get the real answer to why I had been away for so long and where the fuck I had actually been. Yet he seemed to nod a lot and grunt in agreement every time I made reference to certain things. When I mentioned about the unsafe work environment, he could helped but agree.
Jonny: "Good, interesting points. So here's my next question. New age outlaws. Thoughts?"
I laughed again, maybe I was nervous? I wasn't sure.
Richard: "The new age, honestly I can't help but look at the them and see the knights, or at least a really bad copy. I mean Joey is a great guy and so is Bob. My problem with them is this though, their whole storyline hinges on the fact that they don't get shots at titles and they aren't main event and all they do is whine and bitch and whine and bitch about shit that doesn't matter. These guys have honestly had more shots then the entire lockeroom, falling short of only one man. Yes the king of the shortest title reigns. Whether it's a week or a day or a few minutes. Kurt Orton is the only man in that lockeroom to have had more chances at the championship belts then any of the New age members. I mean one of these guys won a mid card title and he bitched about the fact he wasn't the main event champion. He didn't even give a shit about his achievement, he just wanted to cause trouble and honestly, if the new age wanted me to fight them or join them or whatever. I would place a condition that they have to stop fucking whining."
Jonny couldn't stop laughing. He clearly agreed but he couldn't out right say that during the pod cast. Eventually he stopped laughing and we moved forward with the shoot.
Jonny: "Good points and now here's the big one. Blade LaVigne, go!"
I nodded at Jonny and cleared my throat before deciding to shoot harder then I ever had before. It was time for the fans to realize who their champion really was.
Richard: "Blade LaVigne. Oh god. Hash tag Douche bag. Now, I got respect for him a little and in the show, I big it up a lot more then how I actually feel toward him. See the biggest problem I have with this guy is he constantly has two big things that apparently mean the world to him. His mother and god. Now I'm not going to say shit about god, that's his personal belief but every time this guy gets on the mic he has to make out that he is doing this for more then just himself, that he's making people proud and that he actually gives a shit about the fans. Yet this guy does not give a shit about entertaining fans, he doesn't give a shit about having a safe work environment, he doesn't give a shit about anything unless it benefits his pay check, his ego and his title reign. He is the first to hold his hand up and refuse a storyline if he feels it doesn't "work". Vince falls for it and we go back to square one with sub par story lines and no real build for anything.
Now this is a shoot, so this keyfabe, this isn't storyline, this is straight up, behind the scenes, real life bullshit that Thy has to deal with. The other week, me, Blade, Zak and Vince are all discussing a segment, Zak is going to attack Blade as there has been some smack talk, I come out. Refuse to fight a weakened Blade, we squish Zak, me and Blade make each other look strong and then I go over, in build for the next week. Now, Blade has a problem, he doesn't want to look weak because he's the champion. So Vince says, OK. FEAR, you get beat down by Blade then you hit a finisher, lights go out and we throw some kind of shitty display on the titan tron.
So I'm sat here trying to put forward that, I light the finisher idea, I like the lights out stuff but the problem is, I don't think it makes me look strong and that is not me being like, my ego is so big that I have to beat the champion but how can someone appear like a legitimate threat to a title or to the champion or to the fucking federation in general if they look weak as shit. I'm ignored and Blade gets his way because he's the champion, he's Vince's little bitch and I get squished and then I super man like some John Cena bullshit and I hit my finisher and "feel the fear" comes across the titan tron and after the show, Blade comes to me and he's like, "oh yeah, that was great but I don't see how it builds to next week."
I fucking couldn't believe it, this guy does not understand. He refuses to put anyone over when he really should, even if he just makes a guy look really fucking strong in the ring for 2 or 3 weeks and then PPV is here and he smashes the shit out of them and he retains and everyone is on their feet because finally there's a storyline worth following, the fans actually have concern for Blade's title reign instead of seeing him as just another John Cena clone. I mean, you've been in the arena and that crowd splits down the middles. Half of them fucking love him and the others fucking hate his guts. He is literally the biggest dumb ass I have ever met. So that's my opinion on Blade and honestly, this week. I plan to go hard and fast, I going to stop until I prove that he doesn't have what it takes to be in the big league with people like me, Joey and Bob. But while him and Vince regularly tongue each others assholes. That won't happen. In fact, he will watch, hear, whatever this interview and all he'll fucking say is 'I have earned my place, my title, I am the best in Thy' and he'll say that he has done nothing but work since the first day he got here but this guy he doesn't realize that no, he hasn't. He's been given biased and unfair rewards which he doesn't deserve.
I said awhile ago that I was going to purge Thy of all the shit, that I was going to work harder then anyone in the ring, that I wasn't going to bite my tongue anymore and that this is my time. Well honestly, Blade is just the start. He is one of the worst but before I move on to anyone else. I'm going to see him lose the title, whether to me or someone else. I'm going to stomp his dreams into the mud and I'm going to prove who is truly the best in the business. You and me both know that it's me. It used to be you but like you said, you're retired and I'm the new you. So technically, it's us but you get the picture.
So here's my warning to the lockeroom. My name is Richard Black, I'm the embodiment of FEAR and whether you're 7 foot or 4 foot nothing. 150 pounds or 500. Whether you're a champion, former champion or just another roster member. You better watch out, you better stand down or you will get hurt, you will get beaten to shit and I will raise myself above you all. This is my right, this is my time, this is for the fans, this for the respect of this federation and this is for the real champion: me.
Oh and Vince... if you have any other little games you want to play with me. I've already shown I'm better then Bob Cena, that I'm better then Zak Shields and most importantly, whether he wants to bitch and moan, whether he's scared of putting people over, whether he honestly thinks that he can't make people look strong in story lines because it makes him look too weak to be a champion. I don't care. I am better then Blade LaVigne. I am better then he has ever been, then he is now and I better then he will ever be. So bring it on because I don't think you realize. I'm here to make sure, this place is a safer, more entertaining environment, I'm here to show that your golden little ass kisser, isn't best for business and you really need to reconsider who holds your championship belt."
I got up and left the room, Jonny was already wrapping up the show in shock, the whole building was going nuts, people shouting and calling for the feed to go dead but it was too late. Jonny was the kind of guy who would have live streamed the whole pod cast, meaning it was out there. My entire shoot. I walked out the front doors of the Thy WWE Headquarters and I knew from that moment that if I wasn't going to be fired or suspended that I was going to be in for a beating from Blade and I couldn't wait. Unsafe work environment for sure but there was one thing Blade was forgetting... I wasn't just an entertainer, I wasn't just someone who knew how to take a bump and how to help people fall. I was a fighter, an actual fighter unlike him and I was ready to kick his skinny fat ass.

Do not take offense to any of this, it is just backstage information based off of events from RAW results, roleplays and tweaking some events that happened out of character to fit more into the in character back story.
