The bell has been rung and my arm raised. I look down and all I can see is the fallen King of Camelot at my feet. The once mighty Beno, The man that used to lead this company and the man who was once feared by all, At MY feet. His body lifeless only air that enters and escapes his body shows some life but he will never be the same again. My arms drop and my titles are handed back to me. I throw them over my shoulder as my eyes still lock onto Beno. My brain telling me this man couldn’t have been taken out so easily. I was half expecting him to jump up and attack me, try to weaken me but nothing came. He laid there until the official helped him out of the ring. My mind still could not comprehend what just happened. My wife holds my arm and she kisses my shoulder as we walk to the edge of the ring. I help her out and I exit the ring. Beno limping out of the arena, still I expect him to turn around and change me like a bull but instead he continues to look like a wounded calf. He exits the arena as me and Sophie continue into the backstage area. We walk past Beno, the Fallen King, as medics check him over.
A few days pass and both Zak and Sophie are walking up a long dive way. Zak is somewhat being dragged by Sophie as she seems to be in more of a rush than him. Zak is in his blue jeans and his black British Brawler hoodie. Sophie in her black jeans and one of Zak’s hoodies. They get half way up the drive when Zak pulls Sophie back to him.
Zak Shields – “Can’t we do this another time?”
Sophie Shields – “No we can’t. We already got married without them knowing and they need to know they’re going to be grandparents. Now move your ass!”
Zak Shields – “But you said your old man was in the Marines. He’s going to kill me.”
Sophie Shields – “Aw is the THY Dual Champion afraid of an old geezer.”
Zak Shields – “…Yes!”
Sophie giggles and she continues to drag Zak up the drive. They make it to the door and before they can even knock on the big oak slab, it swings open and a woman looking the spitting image of Sophie just 20 years along opens the door with a tear in her eye. Sophie lets go of Zak and she leaps forward and hug her mother. Both women start to cry uncontrollably. Minuets pass and Zak merely takes in the sight of a mother and a daughter embracing their love for one another. They finally release and Sophie wipes her tears away as she introduces Zak.
Sophie Shields – “Mum this is my husband, Zak.”
Zak leans forward and he gives his mother-in-law a kiss on the cheek. From the top of the stairs he hears a booming voice.
Bob Dumas – “Hey that’s my lady.”
Sophie runs up the stairs and she hugs her dad.
Sophie Shields – “I’m so sorry for running away dad, but I had a good reason.”
They both walk down the stairs and to the doorway. Zak stands still not wanting to move. His new father-in-law stands in front of him. The old guy’s marine days haven’t been forgotten on this man. His muscles still push against his shirt and his body language still resembles the tough guy he used to be. Suddenly Bob cracks a smile and he reaches out to shake Zak’s hand. Zak jumps slightly but soon he notices Bob only wants peace, perhaps for his daughters sake. But none he less Zak greets his hand and they shake. Bob’s grip tighter than what a normal mans would be. Gripping rifle butts all your life will do that to you. All four of them make their way to the dining room and Mary puts on a pot of coffee. Mary sits down at the table clutching Bob’s hand as Zak does the same to Sophie. The house so far Zak can make out is slightly modern, clearly an old couple that’s trying to keep with the times. In the corner Zak notices an iPad. So his in-laws keeping with the times must surely be a good sign. The silence has gone on long enough and Zak knows he must say something.
Zak Shields – “This is a lovely home you have.”
For the first time Zak’s voice seems soft rather than his usual gruff self.
Sophie Shields – “Mom, Dad before we get started I want you to know that I didn’t run away from home. I saw a chance to be happy and I took it. Zak has done nothing but love me from the first day we meet. We have been through so much together and we have our whole lives ahead of us.”
Sophie takes a deep breathe.
Sophie Shields – “Saying that I have some bigger news. I’m pregnant. You’re going to be grandparents!”
Bob and Mary jumps from their seats and they hug their daughter.
Mary Dumas – “Oh dear we are so happy for you both.”
Bob lets go of his daughter and looks over at Zak who is now on his feet. They shake hands again.
Bob Dumas – “Welcome to the family son.”
The hours pass and night turns to day and all four of them are watching TV. Sophie gets up and kisses Zak on the lips as she walks out the door.
Sophie Shields – “I’m off to bed babes. Come up when you’re ready. It’s the room at the end of the hall.”
Zak Shields – “Good night my love”
Sophie exits the room picking up a rucksack as she walks up the stairs. Mary kisses Bob on the cheek and she whispers in his ear as she exits the room and heads up the stairs also leaving just Bob and Zak in the room with only the TV for company.
Bob Dumas – “You like Football Zak?”
Zak Shields – “I like English football sir. Not this American thing.”
Bob looks at Zak with a stern eye. Zak feels his mouth getting dryer as Bob stands up and walks over to his liquor cabinet. He takes out a bottle of Jack Daniels and two glasses. He walks over to Zak and he hands him a glass and he opens the bottle and he pours the whiskey into his glass. Bob sits back down and he does the same to his own glass.
Bob Dumas – “You’re alright Zak. For a Brit!”
They each raise their glass and they both take a swig as both men chuckle. The ice clearly broken now.
Bob Dumas – “Well usually I would ask Sophie’s fella’s what their intentions are with my daughter but as far as I can see you two are pretty much set in your ways now. But tell me do you think raising a kid in a traveling life in the Wrestling world is anyway to raise a child?”
Zak Shields – “Well sir all I can tell you is it’s not the best life in the world. But I can tell you one thing. That child will have a mother and a father that will love them more than life itself. I never had that growing up my old man hated life and hated everything he made in this world, including bis kids. Now let me tell you this week im going out into the ring and im facing another former world champion Kurt Orton. Now granted he holds the record for the shortest reign EVER, but none the less he was at one point the best in the business. Now when I kick his ass in that ring I will show the world that I deserve to be the world champion. Not only will I be out there doing what I do day in and day out, for the love of the wrestling world, but I will be doing it for the love of that little child growing in my wife’s belly. Kurt has no idea how much passion I take into each and every single match and he has no idea its that little baby that isn’t even born yet that drive me to be a better man. So the answer to your question is no. The traveling life in the Wrestling world isn’t going to be the best life for him or her. But I will make sure that baby has everything it will ever need and I will make sure my love will protect it each and every day. Kurt Orton will be a statement this week. A statement that no man or woman will come between my dreams for me and my family.”
Bob Dumas – “Sophie told me you were good a speeches.”
Both men share their drinks long into the night.
