As the crowd prepare to bear witness to another riveting episode of Monday Night Raw, they eat the snacks they had purchased and allow their eyes to widen at the bright lights and the cameras. Few consider the backstage contribution of other workers that makes the show the truly great spectacle it is. The introductory fireworks have already commenced, garnering a loud pop from the crowd who have been thoroughly heated up for the show following a dark match. The fireworks only succeeded in pushing the mood higher. But at this stage, most of the smoke has faded off into oblivion and the small amount that remains bears no significance to the studio crowd who excitedly hop up and down in the stands, garbed in their favourite superstars merchandise and waving a sign or perhaps a DX glow stick. The World Wrestling Empire have seen their revenue increases significantly since Shawn Michaels and Triple H have reunited with their stable’s merchandise selling through the roof. Unfortunately the teams success has hardly mirrored their sales, with Triple H faltering in the Intercontinental division and HBK is yet to win a match, even with his new valet, Natalya Neidhart, who has history of her own. She is the Diva Search 2010 winner and Miz’s former valet stroke girlfriend. She was with Miz through all the turmoil with The Undertaker, which ultimately resulted in a Bad Blood defeat to The Phenom, since then, he has never been the same.
While Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler orchestrate things for the viewers at home with their entertaining mix of announcing and colour commentary, less reputable men are directing events behind the scenes, such as the formation of the backstage area, the timing of fireworks or the construction of a backstage set for an interview. There is in fact set currently under construction, it is half complete, but it is already evident it is of a dark background. The dark backdrop is in fact the night sky and slightly to the right, there is a crescent moon burning brightly, like a beacon or a sign of hope amongst the overwhelming sea of blackness. It is evident that this area will be dedicated to a segment with The Undertaker, who has promised to make an appearance at some stage tonight, no doubt regarding his victory at No Mercy and of his opponent this week, Hulk Hogan.
The camera returns to the arena and asserts itself high in the rafters, where thousands of excited fans are off their seats and cheering as the titantron runs down through the card tonight. Each and every WWE fan is still pumped from the exciting pay per view they witnessed only last night, which saw a new diva’s champion and a new number one contender for the Intercontinental title. A certain fan in a Triple H t-shirt is waving a sign, which has the words: “Drew McIntyre is a joke,” he’s clearly still bitter “The King of Kings” vacated his championship and Brian Gunn is the new champion. The crowd certify their mercurial nature as their cheers turn sour as soon as the titantron displays a picture of CM Punk, below it reads: “Punk comes to Raw tonight!” The atmosphere is further spoiled when an image of Undertaker with the WWE Champion slung over his shoulder appears, hyping up the fact the current champion will be making an appearance prior to his match.
The camera team adjust the height and angle of the picture so the viewers see the ring and announcer’s table rather than the stands the WWE fans are in. The formidable duo of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are seated before the studio cameras, JR is sporting his usual hat and suit while King has a custom made t-shirt on. Both men appear to be bright and ready for action following No Mercy on Sunday, King leans on the desk and tilts his head toward JR, who has his hands clasped and resting in front of him as he welcomes the WWE viewers to the show.
Jim Ross
Hello everyone and welcome to Monday Night Raw! We have another great show planned for you all tonight with matches such as the newly drafted CM Punk versus Alexander Kendall, who put on a great performance at No Mercy, but that isn’t to say Punk isn’t renowned for his talents also. CM Punk managed to capture the US Title and successfully defend it well before the backstage antics of Shane McMahon drove Punk to quit, but Mr McMahon intervened, firing his own son and recruiting Punk to Raw. We’ll see the aftermath of No Mercy for CM Punk as well as many other superstars, tonight on Raw.
Jerry Lawler
That’s right JR, we saw history made at No Mercy with Undertaker defeating Kane in a brutal Hell in a Cell match and Shane McMahon fired from the World Wrestling Empire. I still can’t get over that JR, what drove Vince to fire his own flesh and blood?
Jim Ross
We saw family betray each other and family brutalize each other when Undertaker tombstoned his brother twice, put him through a table and tore Kane through the Hell in a Cell chain. Paul Bearer was in a real state as Undertaker stood triumphant over his younger brother, he was on the ground cursing his luck and The Undertaker, who cast Bearer away before he arrived here. Bearer’s response was Kane, who has failed. I wonder what Bearer has up his sleeve to try and dethrone The Deadman this time?
Jerry Lawler
I don’t know JR, but before Undertaker can worry about his brother, Kane, he’ll have to contend with the immortal Hulk Hogan. You know as well as I JR, that facing Hogan is no easy task, especially when you have all of Hulkamania against you as well. This may be the night Undertaker’s undefeated run finally comes to an end.
As the anticipation throughout the arena continues build, threatening to send the crowd into the depths of madness, it is evident by the sheer numbers of WWE fans clad in Hulk Hogan merchandise that the fan base would like no one more than Hogan to end Undertaker’s unbeaten run. There is genuine belief in the faces of the thousands of fans who have turned out to Raw that not even Undertaker can prevail under the immense pressure of Hulk Hogan and the entirety of Hulkamania. As each fan roars Hogan’s name, they are calling for the emancipation of the dark era brought by The Undertaker and for the triumphant establishment of Hulkamania within the Raw brand of Thy WWE. After two months under Undertaker’s dominion, the entire WWE Universe has had enough and are routing for a new champion. While Hogan cannot win the WWE Championship tonight as it is a non title match, Undertaker’s unbeaten run is at stake and it is something of high regard and of similar prestige to the title itself and a big part of why Undertaker is considered the epitome of wrestling in the company. Each week the fans have invested their hopes and dreams within a wrestler and each time they have been disappointed, as every challenger crumbles beneath Undertaker. Yet there is hope in Hulk Hogan, one of the most dominant and iconic figures to ever emerge from the wrestling business and he stands a better chance than anyone else of ending Undertaker’s unbeaten run as Hogan is the esteemed record breaker and record setter. He lifted the five hundred pound Andre the Giant and slammed him in front of thousands of fans and he alone has won match of the year four times and won superstar of the year three times. But fans are still heckled by niggling doubts, The Undertaker has been raging for months now and perhaps even Hulk Hogan isn’t up to the task.
Jim Ross
Who knows, King? Maybe the propitious Hulk Hogan can defeat the indomitable Deadman, but all odds point to Undertaker to take this one home yet again. As talented and favourable as Hogan is, losing out in that Battle Royal really doesn’t help his chances in entering a match against The Phenom of all people.
Jerry Lawler
Yeah JR, but these people want a change! Can’t you feel Hulkamania taking over JR? Hogan is going to end the unbeaten run, I can feel it!
GONG[/color]
The arena breaks into a dead quiet as a gong reverberates around the arena. A mere moment after the sound has faded away into oblivion, the arena is stripped of all light and twenty thousand people descend into the depths of darkness. Another gong tolls and the lights fall into a shade of blue, the blue is monochrome and does nothing to brighten the atmosphere as another gong sounds. This time the lighting brightnes around the stage as smoke gushes out over the entire arena, giving it the feel of a graveyard in the depths of the night. Before long, another gong has sounded and the titantron begins to flicker and come to life, as the big screen lights up, a strange, yet foreboding vignette is played. There is a strange sequence of events that seems to have no apparent meaning, there is the sound of a raven’s cry as the camera pans through a graveyard, passing various tombstones with the night sky and the wacing moon as a backdrop. As the camera scrolls this way and that the screen sporadically cuts to Undertaker, who isn’t facing the camera but is looking to the side with his eyes rolled back in a dark blue backdrop. The vignette cuts back and forth between the ominous graveyard and The Undertaker from various stages in his career, in strange cult like environments with his signature eye trick. This sequence continues for a few more moments before the screen blacks out entirely and the lights disappear, leaving the fans to mull over the vignette, blind and deaf in Undertaker’s artificial night. Just as the silence becomes tiresome, a gruff sounds through the PA system.
Undertaker
Hulk…….Hogan……..
Suddenly the titantron bursts back into life, with The Undertaker on screen. The Phenom is facing away to the viewers right, with his hair draped down over his face and with his head bowed. The set is nearly entirely black, but for a crescent moon, burning brightly amidst the shadowy backdrop like a piercing in a black canvas. The Undertaker is only visible from shoulder level, but his face isn’t visible due to the acute angle and the hair which droops down over his face, shrouding The Deadman in mystery and for those who know him, it surrounds him with menace. As always, none can predict the capricious ways of The Undertaker and the fans are mesmerised by the less than standard way of introducing yourself to the fans. The bearer of the seemingly perpetual streak raises his head slowly, his hair falls back away from his face and Undertaker straightens up his neck while rolling his shoulders slightly. The crowd begin to boo deafeningly, as the single most loathed figure in the entire promotion fills the titantron. Suddenly, Undertaker darts his head to the right, his eyes burn like fire, his two piercing steel blue eyes cut through those who fall under his gaze. With his eyes still wide and burning bright, Undertaker shifts his body, garbed in black apparel, so his shoulders are facing outward toward the arena packed arena, where there isn’t one seat available. Undertaker’s face seems to be flushed of all color, with pale skin and pallid purple lips. His hair is ragged and unkempt like a dead man’s, the only part of Undertaker’s face which draws attention are his eyes, which are like too buring coals, piercing their victim and inflicting immediate and crippling trepidation. The fans dismiss the thought of ever stepping in a ring with Undertaker simply by staring into his eyes, which are cold and callous, oozing a sense of malevolence that Hulk Hogan will have to endure later on tonight. Undertaker draws a short breath before beginning in his message to the WWE Universe and more importantly, his adversary for the night at least, “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan.
Undertaker
What comes to mind when I speak those words, Hulk…….Hogan. My mind immediately depicts an old broken down man with nothing better to fight for than his outdated Hulkamania. Yet, that is a reality, is it not? Hulk Hogan is nothing but an overused, outdated has been and has come back to try and reap success similar to the glory days of old. But Hogan, you will find your search to be an empty one, for a great shadow has fallen over the World Wrestling Empire and my dark era has established itself here. You are nothing but a broken down old man and you don’t even have the wherewithal to contend with athletes trying to make a name for themselves in the intercontinental division. What chance could you possibly stand against the might of the undefeated Phenom, who has been terrorizing Thy WWE for three months. You stand no chance, even with the valour of Hulkamania, you will fall beneath me because I am fresher and more powerful than you could ever have hoped to have been in your hay day Hogan and you will be left in a stupor before you have been in my yard for five minutes. Remember Hogan, you might have the entirety of Hulkamania on your side, but you are coming into my yard, my territory. I have proven to be indomitable since joining the World Wrestling Empire and you have struggled to cement any recognition from Vince McMahon, who has given you the chance of a lifetime against me, but as they all have, you will fall into the shadow of The Reaper. No matter how many fans you have and how many men you have felled, you are but another wayward soul that most be laid to rest in my eyes.
Undertaker has retained the intensity he showed at first as the more he speaks of his foe for the night, the more he seems to build a head of steam and show his dominion over Thy WWE, much to the chagrin of the WWE fans, who clearly wish to see Undertaker without the title and without his unbeaten run, but as each match passes that becomes less likely. At the moment there are three men the fans believe can defeat Undertaker, the adored Hogan, the despised and condescending CM Punk as well as fresh new comer, Alexander Kendall who has displayed huge potential in the ring.
Undertaker
If you think you can honestly contend with me Hogan, let’s see the athletes I have felled on my path that seems to frequently present me with small problems, much like you Hogan. I have defeated The Miz, who presented a far greater challenge than you ever could, Hogan yet ever since I broke him before Natalya and thousands of fans he has failed to resurface ever since. I even vanquished my own flesh and blood, Kane in a brutal Hell in a Cell match and Hogan, if I can overcome a larger brother embodied with the same supernatural power as I, you won’t pose as great a threat. Not even the combined might of The Sorrow and Raven in a triple threat could hold me down. I have fought and felled greater athletes than you Hulk Hogan and I truly look forward to proving your lack of immortality when I scoop your broken body from the ring canvas and plant it into the mat once more with my tombstone. While I can talk of the athletes I have fought in this very ring, I think I should remind you of who exactly you are facing tonight on Raw, Hulk Hogan. I am the most feared, the most respected and the most revered force to ever walk through these halls and work this ring. I have been undefeated ever since I returned and the seventh bell tolled around the arena, marking the return of The Undertaker by fire. I have held this belt since February and there hasn’t been anyone close to dethroning me, from knocking off my pedestal here in Thy WWE, you Hulk Hogan aren’t the one. You see Hogan? You’re frail and outdated while I am still strong and dominant after two decades of in ring competition. You don’t even compare to the might of my brother Kane, who came closer than any to defeating me at Hell in a Cell. This will all come crashing down upon you when I tombstone you in the middle of the ring and send Hulkamania crashing down along with your broken body with a decisive three count. Now, I’ll leave Hogan to mull over his utter despondency and let desperation grip him. Then, as he watches me walk down the ramp, clad in my ring attire in all of my dark, tainted glory, trepidation will enter his heart and out in ring contest will be a short one. Hulk Hogan, prepare yourself to, for you will……………….REST…………..IN…………………PEACE!
Undertaker holds his gaze for a moment, before rolling his eyes back and as though it were his will, the titantron fades into the blackness Undertaker has created around the arena. With the titantron turned rather abruptly blank, Undertaker’s hold over the arena has dwindled into nothing and the arena lighting system has returned to reveal thousands of devout Hulkamaniacs rampant in the stands, they haven’t been fazed by Undertaker’s words, in fact some fans seem bolstered by The Phenom’s harsh, biting words and perhaps the energy of Hulkamania will channel into the Hulkster himself tonight.
Jim Ross
Undertaker seems as confident as ever, the living legend that is Hogan has failed to intimidate The Deadman, whatsoever. Perhaps Undertaker really will decimate The Hulkster, or perhaps the impertinence displayed by Undertaker will return to haunt him when these two athletes go one-on-one in the squared circle.
Jerry Lawler
I dunno King, I feel Hulkamania running wild here tonight! I’ve got one question, whatca gonna do……
Jim Ross
Uh, we’ll be back after a short break, don’t go away, Monday Night Raw will return shortly.
EORP
Sorry about this rushed rp. Easter was pretty hectic. My next one will have more substance and quality. Nonetheless, feedback is welcome, if you wish.
