Quickly Knight is back up to his feet and the fans are still dueling with each other with chants of approval. They start to circle each other again, Reynolds lands a right, and Knight lands a right of his own. Both men take a moment, rubbing the contact point of the punches, and then circling each other again. Reynolds rushes Knight, Knight dodges and rolls Reynolds for a pin.

Kickout by Knight
Both men are back to their feet again, and the fans are still dueling with each other with chants for Knight and chants for Reynolds. Both men are circling each other again and finally lock up in the middle of the ring. Reynolds uses his slight strength advantage to push Knight back into the corner where the ref breaks it up and both men step back out to the middle of the ring. Again they lock up and this time Knight pushes Reynolds slowly back into the other corner and again the ref breaks them up and they circle each other in the middle of the ring.
Phil Latio: Do you hear this place? What a great way to start the show.
Don Chuckles: What did you say? I can’t hear you these fans are going crazy.
As the fans duel with their chants, Reynolds and Knight meet in the middle of the ring, both talking trash back and forth to each other before the talk is stopped when Knight kicks Reynolds in the gut and drops him with a tough DDT and he drops for a pin…

Knight quickly picks Reynolds up to his feet and whips him into the ropes, on the rebound Knight slides behind Reynolds and puts him in a sleeper hold. The fans start to go crazy, but quickly Reynolds pushes back into the corner, slamming Knight a few times before he lets go of the hold, and Reynolds drops to a knee. Knight quickly comes out of the corner and drops Reynolds down with a bulldog and another quick cover.

Knight jumps to his feet and starts to play to the crowd. The brief moment gives Reynolds enough time to roll out of the ring and start to compose himself. Both men yelling they are better than the other. Reynolds goes to roll back in the ring but Knight rushes the spot and Reynolds stays on the outside, pacing around the ring. He tries to get in again, and again Knight cuts him off forcing Reynolds to find another way into the ring. The fans are thoroughly enjoy this game of cat and mouse. Finally the ref starts his ten count. And as soon as Knight notices the ref counting Reynolds out, Knight steps back and into the corner and waits for Reynolds to climb back in. Reluctantly Reynolds climbs the steps and climbs in through the ropes. Knight makes a motion to Reynolds and quickly the two start to circle again. Knight goes to lock up but Reynolds ducks it, bounces off the ropes and takes Knight down with a flying knee. Knight up, and Reynolds comes back with a clothesline, Knight up again and again Reynolds takes him down with a clothesline. The fans erupt as Reynolds goes for another clothesline but Knight ducks it and drops Reynolds with a neck breaker.
Quickly Knight pulls Reynolds to his feet, whips him into the ropes, and drops him down with a standing drop kick. Knight points to the top and the fans start to go crazy with chants of “Knight”. Stalker Knight climbs to the top motions his hands in a flipping motion and leaps…As soon as Knight leaps off the top for a high risk maneuver as Reynolds moves out of the way and Knight lands hard bottom first, which sends Knight flopping on the mat holding his rear end as Reynolds gets to his feet and quickly dives on Knight, mounts and starts to throw punches like a Wildman. Knight does what he can to defend himself before the ref finally gets to a five count and pulls Reynolds off Knight.
Don Chuckles: Here we go…
As soon as the ref releases his hold on Reynolds, Reynolds charges Knight and again mounts and starts to throw punches, but is quickly reversed and Knight has the mount punching away at Reynolds before again Reynolds rolls to the mount, gets a few punches in before Knight reverses it once again, this time the two men roll out of the ring. In one fluid motion they hit the ground and starts to fight to their feet each throwing in punches one after the other before they bounce into the barrier and flip over into the crowd and the fans start their dueling chants again as the cameras struggle to get a good angle. As the ref gets to 2, both Reynolds and Knight realize the count is going on and fight with each other to be the first over the barrier. As the ref hits 4 Knight goes for the barrier, and as he climbs over it Reynolds dives through Knight sending both men crashing back to the floor ring side. The fans are still chanting for both these men as Reynolds gets to his feet first, violently helps Knight back to his feet, rolls Knight into the ring, breaking the count, and rolling in after him. As Reynolds goes to pick Knight up to his feet, Knight grabs Reynolds and quickly rolls him up for a pin attempt.

And again, both men are back to their feet staring each other down. Both looking into the crowd amazed at he stamina of the fans before locking up in the middle of the ring again.
Reynolds grabs Knights arm and twists it up, Knight taps his shoulder and quickly reverses the hold and twists Reynolds’s arm up behind him. Reynolds then quickly reverses that and spins behind Knight picking him up and dropping him down with a devastating atomic drop. As Knight lightly hops from the move Reynolds rushes in behind, wraps his arms around the waist and tosses Knight back with a huge release German Suplex. Reynolds then quickly goes for the pin.

Frustration is starting to build already as Reynolds again helps Knight up to his feet and whips him into the corner, following behind him with a splash, and as Reynolds steps back Knight falls face first forward and Reynolds motions to the top and the fans react with a raucous ovation.
Don Chuckles: No Reynolds what are you doing?
Phil Latio: He is going up top.
Don Chuckles: I know what he is doing, I am asking why.
Reynolds climbs to the top and leaps off for an elbow drop, but Knight moves out of the way at the last possible second, the fans erupt and both men are on the mat trying to recover. Once again the deuling chants start, trying to motivate both men to their feet.
Don Chuckles: Told you he shouldn’t of went up top.
Phil Latio: In a match like this, the risk is worth the reward.
Both men eventually get back to their feet. Reynolds swings a right, but it is blocked and Knight lands one of his own. Reynolds swings again and again it is blocked and Knight lands another punch, then another, and another, staggering Reynolds back. And quickly Knight rushes him and Reynolds explodes with a forearm that drops Knight down to the mat stopping the momentum. Reynolds then methodically paces around Knight, landed well places stomps to all his limbs, before dropping for another pin attempt.

Without hesitation Reynolds jumps to his feet, paces around Knight Picking his leg up and dropping it down with an elbow to the inside of the knee, then Reynolds starts to yank back on it. Knight sits up in pain trying to fight Reynolds off. Knight lands a right hand, but Reynolds quickly yanks back on the leg and Knight lays flat again in pain. A chant of “Knight” has started trying to help Knight back to his feet, but Reynolds again yanks back on the knee and yells to the ref to check him. The ref drops down to check but Knight is fighting it off.
The fans start to really get behind Knight and he starts to fight to break free. He lands a few punches with eventually cause Reynolds to release the hold, but Reynolds jumps to his feet and stomps away at the knee again sending Knight reeling back and trying to crawl into the corner. But Reynolds grabs his legs, pulls him into the middle of the ring and looks out to the fans who are still chanting “Knight”, trying to get Knight back into the match. But quickly Reynolds wraps Knight’s legs up and puts him in a figure four and starts to put pressure back on that knee. All you can hear is Lets go Knight, Lets go Reynolds from the fans as Knight starts to try and reverse the figure four. The ref is on the mat checking on Knight who is refusing to tap and Knight keeps trying to reverse the hold. But finally Reynolds stops it and puts more pressure on the hold, yanking back on the leg of Knight, causing Knight’s shoulder to drop to the mat, 1..and Knight picks himself up and starts to use the fans as motivation and Knight starts to pull himself towards the ropes. Reynolds is trying to stop it but eventually Knight reaches the ropes and Reynolds is forced to release the hold. Reynolds gets to his feet pointing to his head, showing he has been strategizing for this one. While Knight looks a little shocked at what Reynolds has brought to the table this time around.
In the ring Reynolds is tired of waiting on Knight to get back up and charges Knight, but Stalker Knight grabs the ropes, opens them up and Reynolds goes spilling out to the outside giving Knight valuable time to recover in the ring. Knight limps his way into the corner and waits it out as the ref starts to count Reynolds out. Reynolds kicks at the steps on the outside in frustration as the ref hits a 6 count and finally Reynolds climbs back into the ring and stalks towards Knight again. Reynolds starts to bob and weave landing a handful of punches before Knight grabs Reynolds, picks him up and the two have switched spots, with Knight now landing punches of his own to the delight of the crowd. After a huge upper cut Reynolds flops to the mat in the corner and Knight again plays to the crowd before rushing in with a huge knee and quickly goes for another cover, 1..2 kickout by Reynolds. Reynolds goes for his finisher but Knight blocks it and flips Reynolds over with a big back body drop. Reynolds hits the mat and immediately rolls out of the ring. Inside Knight gets composed, the moment he is he rushes the ropes and leaps through diving straight at Reynolds knocking both men to the mat and the ref starts the ten count. Knight struggles but finally gets Reynolds back into the ring and goes for a cover.

Knight still working, picks Reynolds right back up and whips him into the corner, Knight runs to Reynolds who has staggered out into the ring… As Knight lands the drop kick from the top Reynolds goes flipping backwards and into the other corner. He slowly starts to get to his feet while Knight gets the fans into some more working himself up as much as he does anyone else. As Reynolds gets up to his feet Knight rushes in but Reynolds moves out of the way and helps Knight into the corner with a quick shove, Knight hits chest first and staggers backwards into Reynolds, who puts Knight in a full nelson, and picks him, dropping him with a huge full nelson slam and Reynolds goes for the pin.

Reynolds takes a moment to compose himself before helping Knight to his feet, whipping him into the ropes, Knight ducks a clothesline attempt, Reynolds leap frogs Knight off the rebound and then Reynolds takes Knight down with a huge sidewalk slam. Quickly Reynolds is back up to his feet and again he starts to work on the legs of Knight, stomping away a few times before dropping a huge knee to the top of the knee. Reynolds calls for something, then quickly wraps Knight up in a texas clover leaf, when it is locked in Reynolds leans back with his head on the mat, yanking back as far as he can. Knight screams out, the fans erupt into the dueling chant and Oscar jumps out of his seat. The ref checks on Knight to see if he is going to tap…but Knight is doing everything he can to withstand this pain. The ref keeps checking as Knight starts to try and slide his way towards the ropes, but all of Reynolds’s weight is pushing Knight flat on the mat. Knight is struggling, his arm is up in the air, he is about to tap…so close… At the last possible moment before Knight’s hand hits the mat, Knight rakes the eyes of Reynolds, which causes him to release the hold, and quickly Knight rolls into the corner, holding his leg, trying to get some blood flowing back through it. Reynolds is trying to get to his feet, holding his hands over his face.
In the ring Reynolds is looking out of one eye and Knight has gotten back to his feet. Reynolds rushes Knight, but Knight climbs up Reynolds and…Knight has Reynolds stuck in the corner with the arm bar locked in, Reynolds is struggling as hard as he can to break free, but Knight has the hold locked in. Out of desperation Reynolds leans back and both men go crashing over the ropes and down to the floor below. The fans start their “holy shit” chant as both men are laying out flat on the floor. The ref hops out of the ring to check on both men, but they both push him back, showing no matter how bad they are hurt, no one is quitting here. The ref rolls back into the ring and starts his ten count. He gets to 6 before anyone even gets to their feet, and it is Knight first, and he rolls into the ring. Reynolds is back to his feet within a second of Knight rolling into the ring and Reynolds rolls into the ring himself, and both men are on a knee, staring at each other, waiting for one another to make the first move. Knight taunts Reynolds, getting his opponent all worked up. Knight connects with “The Stalker Bomb” and indeed does hit it and covers Reynolds for the pin.
Phil Latio: And it’s over

Kickout at the last possible second and the fans leave out a collective gasp.
Knight walks to the corner and looks out to the fans who are going crazy right now. Then he signals for it…Knight starts to taunt Reynolds to his feet, and Reynolds does start to get to his feet. Stalker Knight explodes out of the corner going for the Light’s Out…But Reynolds blocks it, kicks Knight in the gut…and delivers the Stalker Bomb again. Reynolds hits the canvas hard as an exhausted Knight crawls over to Reynolds for the pinfall.

General Manager Starr vs. Caitlin Callihan (Steel Cage Match) (General Manager Starr will resign his position and be voluntarily terminated if he loses)
Don Chuckles: The moment is upon us finally. The moment that General Manager Starr has been waiting for two years to have is finally at hand.
Julian Chichy: Do either of you guys realize that nobody cares anymore. Austin is the only one who hasn’t moved on.
Phil Latio: This needs to happen…one way or another…closure happens tonight.
“My Own Hell” by Five Finger Death Punch blasts out over the speakers and we hear the crowd break into boos as General Manager Starr walks out onto the stage slowly and just pauses at the top of the ramp. Looking at the fifteen foot high steel cage being slowly lowered onto the ring causes Austin to close his eyes and visibly tremble for a moment. Once he gathers himself, we see Austin make his way down the ramp and walk up the stairs to get into the ring. We see Austin take a look around the ring at the fans who are still booing him, the hate the fans are showing actually seems to make Austin appear more dejected than normal. But he just starts to stare towards the top of the stage as his music stops. A theme we haven’t heard since the SCW days comes across the speakers and the fans start to show their support as they see Caitlin Callihan come out onto the stage slowly wearing her old Wildcard ring gear. The porcelain mask catches a gleam from the arena lights but the intensity in her eyes is unmistakable. The cage now stops nearly down onto the ring and we can see for a moment and feel the intensity as Austin and Caitlin lock eyes with one another. After a moment that feels like a lifetime, she walks down and rolls inside of the ring, just underneath the cage. Standing up we see Austin has not broken his stare at Callihan who just stares right back at him. The official interjects himself to remind both of them that they only way is to win by escape, pin fall, or submission. Both Austin and Caillihan nod in acknowledgement and as the cage connects with the ring with a loud metallic clang, the bell is rang and this match is officially underway.
Julian Chichy: Kick his ass Callihan!
In the opening seconds of the match we just see Austin and Callihan stare at one another from opposite ends of the ring. For a brief second we see what appears to be apprehension come over Austin as he we can see him mouth “It’s the only way”. But that quickly fades as Austin charges at Callihan, using simple leverage and Austin’s own momentum against him; we see Callihan side step and flip Austin over and onto the mat. Not wasting any time, as Austin quickly gets up, we see Callihan pounce and start to sting the side and legs of Austin with stiff sounding kicks as he tries to get up. Every kick causes a visible grimace of pain on Austin’s face, but we see Callihan go to the well one too often, as a kick aimed for Austin’s ribs gets blocked by him catching and securing her foot. Slowly shaking his head no, we see Austin smile, but it is short lived as Callihan throws her other leg up and stings Austin flush on the side of the head with an enziguri kick. Austin drops to the mat and Callihan immediately pounces up and leaps to the top rope. Austin groggily starts to slowly get up, and when he is nearly back to his feet, we see Callihan leap off and flip forward in the air, connecting with a leg drop on Austin’s neck and back which drops him down to the canvas immediately. Callihan wastes no time as she hooks the leg and goes for a cover—1…NO! Austin kicks out strongly.
Don Chuckles: Perhaps Austin is letting his excitement get the best of him.
Phil Latio: If he’s not careful, he’s gonna have another defeat on his hands that he can obsess over for two more years.
Julian Chichy: Cept this time it will be in the unemployment line….hehe
Almost anticipating the kick out we see Callihan flip back to her feet, aiming for Austin’s head this time we see her measure for another kick. But this time as she fires, we see Austin roll under and as Callihan turns around she is leveled with a short arm lariat. Standing tall with Callihan down on the mat, we see Austin nod and start to tap his head as he grabs Callihan off the mat and lifts her up into fallaway slam position. Walking around the ring with her for a moment smiling, we hear some of the fans boo, and a few of the vocal ones start to throw their popcorn and drinks towards the ring and cage. Austin then heaves Callihan up and drops to a knee, slamming Callihan side first. Holding her there in that contorted position we hear Austin scream for the referee to see if she wants to give It up. Doing his job the referee asks her and we hear Callihan defiantly scream NO. Nodding, we see Austin lift Callihan up one more time before dropping her side into his knee a second time. Austin then stands up and waits for Callihan to catch her breath and get back to her feet. When she does Austin charges her and goes for a big boot, but we see Callihan duck under the boot and immediately drop Austin back to the mat with a stiff kick straight to his mouth. Callihan then once again displays her near cat like agility as she hops onto the second rope, flips off and lands onto Austin with a senton splash. Going for another cover we see the official get into position—1…2…NO! Austin kicks out again, though with not as much authority as the first time.
Don Chuckles: Do you think Austin may have bitten off more than he can chew? Honestly so far Callihan has been out wrestling our General Manager at every turn.
Callihan rolls back to her feet and oddly allows Austin to get himself back up. We can see that the kick split Austin’s lip and blood is now seen on his face. Tapping his lip with his hand we can see Austin’s eyes get big and then start to burn with anger. Now mocking our General Manager we can see Callihan tap her head and shout to Austin “Is this what you wanted, why couldn’t you just leave it alone”. Learning from his first failed attempt at charging forward we see Austin walk forward and try to initiate a collar and elbow tie up. Callihan actually reaches for it but then fakes out Austin again and blatantly kicks him in the nether regions. It immediately doubles Austin over and Callihan kicks Austin in the side of the head which drops him back down to the mat. The referee tries to admonish Callihan for the blatant cheap shot, but she simply ignores him as she leaps up to the top rope. In a scene almost exactly like the first time Austin and Callihan’s paths crossed on that fateful night back in Sin City Wrestling, we see Callihan leap off the top rope and connect onto Austin with a beautiful moon sault.
Don Chuckles: ITS OVER!!!! That’s how Callihan defeated Austin back in Sin City Wrestling.
Phil Latio: Almost seems like poetic justice.
Sensing victory, Callihan hooks the leg and the referee gets into position. The fans in the arena sense victory as well as they count along with the official—1…2…THR—NO!! Austin gets a shoulder off the mat. Perhaps he did prepare better for this encounter, it wouldn’t look like it though from the effort being seen so far. We see Callihan mouth some vulgarities before cinching Austin in a front face lock and assisting him to his feet. Callihan hooks Austin’s head and tries to lift up for what looks like a spike DDT of sorts, but we see Austin use his weight advantage to keep Callihan grounded. Pushing off with his leg strength we see Austin ram Callihan into the corner and knock the wind out of her. Her hold is broken and we see Austin kick Callihan square in the chest to drop her down to the mat. The arena fans are booing once more but Austin doesn’t pay them any attention as he taps his now starting to dry bloody mouth before walking over to the legs of Callihan. Grabbing Callihan’s right leg and lifting it up, we see Austin kick the back of it before dropping an elbow onto the knee. We hear a scream of pain from Callihan as Austin follows up by cinching in a knee bar. The referee drops down and asks Callihan, who is biting her lips to try and stifle the pain if she wants to quit. Frantically shaking her head no we see the referee stand up and keep a close eye on her.
Don Chuckles: These two are more alike than they would care to admit. Both of them have an unparalleled level of heart and passion that you don’t see too often now a days in this business.
Julian Chichy: Plus they just legit don’t like each other.
Phil Latio: They hate each other! Get it right Churchy….
Letting go of the knee bar we see Austin get back to his feet and look at the right leg he just attacked. To add further damage he stomps the right knee once, then a second time, and then finally a third before stepping back and allowing Callihan to use the ropes to assist herself to her feet. Albeit shaky she is able to stand under her own power, showing no fear, no intimidation, she waves Austin in to do his worst. Running at Callihan a third time, we see Austin finally show some smarts as he drops down and hits a front dropkick to the right knee of Callihan which drops her forward and face first onto the mat. Targeting the same right leg he’s been focusing on, we can see Austin turn Callihan over and despite her efforts to fight him, we see Austin power and cinch in a grapevine leg lock. Once more the official asks Callihan if she wants to quit and the answer is the same as the first time as screams NO this time. Transitioning from the leg lock, we see Austin move into a full mount as he grabs a head of Callihan’s hair, lifts her head up and makes a fist like he is about to hit her. We see no fear in Callihan’s eyes as they meet with Austin’s. That same look we seen at the start of the match, the look of apprehension comes over Austin’s face again, but it’s gone just as quick as he lets go of Callihan’s hair and instead transitions into and locks in an Anaconda Vice on Callihan. Squeezing with everything he has in him we see him slowly starting to choke the life out of Callihan.
Don Chuckles: I’m starting to see it guys…do you notice how neither of them have tried to escape?
Phil Latio: Yeah.
Don Chuckles: An escape is secondary, these two are going to fight until one of them is incapacitated to the point where they either get pinned or submit.
Julian Chichy: Seems like it would be the only way to finally obtain closure.
Feeling her strength start to fade from her we see Austin oddly let go of the submission hold as he assists Callihan to his feet. We see she still has some fight in her, although not much as a kick and a pair of chops she tries to throw do not have as much sting as normal. Pulling Callihan nearly up, we see Austin raise his arms together into a double axe handle and bring them down and across the back of Callihan which puts her back down onto all fours. Helping her up once more we see Austin toss Callihan off the ropes, as she comes back Austin gets her up into a side slam position, Callihan tries her best to counter it into a head scissors takeover, but Austin holds firm and drops her onto his knees with a backbreaker. Turning the backbreaker into a modified surfboard submission he motions for the referee to come check on her. Call it fatigue, call it pain, but Callihan at first appears unresponsive when the referee asks her if she wants to give it up. But then he drops down closer and asks her again, putting his ears near her face, we see her whisper no and the referee stands up. Applying more pressure we hear a whimper of pain come from Callihan which causes that same look to come over Austin’s face again as he lets go of the hold.
Don Chuckles: Do you guys think General Manager Starr could actually be feeling remorse at what he is doing/has done to this woman?
Phil Latio: It’s possible….it really is.
Standing up we see Austin signal to the now loudly booing crowd that it’s time for the Rising Starr kick. Turning and cocking slightly we see Austin wait for Callihan to slowly pull herself up. Once she does, Austin fires the kick, but Callihan is able to sidestep just long enough to avoid it. But the damage done to her right knee and leg comes back to strike her once again as she puts more weight than can be handled and her leg buckles on her. We see Austin immediately correct course and knee Callihan in the stomach hard before turning and stinging Callihan with the Rising Starr kick. Looking at the top rope we see Austin show his own agility as he hops up to the middle turnbuckle and then climbs up to the top rope. Closing his eyes to take it all in for a moment, we then see Austin flip off the top rope and catch some impressive height as he contorts his body in midair and smashes down onto Callihan with the Shooting Starr. Hooking both of her legs the referee gets into position and starts to make the count—1…2…but wait, Austin lets go of the pinning predicament and looks down at a now unconscious Callihan and then at the top rope. Looking higher we see Austin eye the top of the cage and then start to nod.
Don Chuckles: Is Austin about to escape the cage?
Standing up and hopping to the middle and then top turnbuckle, we see Austin start to climb up the cage. It only takes him a matter of seconds to get to the very top of the cage and throw one leg over. Seeing imminent victory, Austin instead decides to bring his leg back over and stand atop the steel cage. Over sixteen feet high in the air we see Austin look around the arena and then down at Callihan who is still out cold in the ring. We actually see a tear start to fall down Austin’s face as he mouths “Forgive me, I never wanted it to go this far”.
Don Chuckles: He wouldn’t…OH MY GOD!!!!
Austin then silences the booing crowd by leaping from the top of the cage, flipping in midair and smashing down onto Callihan with another Shooting Starr. Ignoring the pain the impact caused him, we see Austin hook both of Callihan’s legs and the referee makes the count—1…2…3! It’s over.
Winner: General Manager Starr in 14:30 via Shooting Starr
Don Chuckles: He did it. It took him two years but General Manager Starr has gotten the victory that has long eluded him.
Phil Latio: What’s next now?
We see Austin stand up and look almost relieved in the ring as the fans boo while “My Own Hell” by Five Finger Death Punch starts to play again. Instead of staying in the ring, we see Austin oddly exit quickly and walk up the ramp as the referee calls some of the arena staff down to help him check on Callihan. The show then goes to an advertisement break…

Thy WWE World Heavyweight Championship ‘The Dark Horse’ Alex Kendall (c) vs. ‘The Celtic Warrior’ Sheamus Alex Kendall makes his way down to the ring. As confident as his walk usually is, this time, there’s that same sense of anxiety that we saw all those months ago – when they fought the first time.
As he climbs into the ring, he raises his title belt high to show the crowd. The capacity audience roars in both respect and anticipation of the contest to come, the bar already having been set so high by their previous encounter.
His music plays – and nothing happens.
It plays again – and nothing happens.
The look of anxiety on Kendall’s face changes from anxiety – to disappointment. Then to frustration. Finally, to complete despondence.
As the music goes quiet, the boos of the crowd begin to fill the arena. The referee and Kendall have a few quiet words that the camera doesn’t quite pick up. The referee goes to lift Kendall’s hand, only for him to immediately recoil away from the gesture. He angrily shouts at the official – and in a display of indifference, throws the title belt to the mat.
Kendall heads to the ropes – only to be paused by another song.
The theme of one K. Orton.
Orton, still slightly battered and bruised from his Rumble entrance, sprints down to the ring. He slides under the bottom rope, refusing Kendall passage down the entrance way. The two share words, starting amicable at first – but getting harsher.
Orton points to the title belt. Alex glances briefly at it, and then goes to force his way aside. Orton blocks his path again. He grabs the belt – and forces it into Kendall’s chest.
The two have some more words...and finally, Kendall walks over to the referee, handing him the championship.
The crowd hears nothing.
There’s no announcements. No introductions.
But the bell suddenly rings.
We have a title match.
Thy WWE World Heavyweight Championship ‘The Dark Horse’ Alex Kendall (c) vs. ‘The Prodigy’ Kurt Orton Orton tries to reason with Alex, but Kendall isn't willing to listen, demanding that Orton just starts the match. Eventually, Kurt does oblige and goes for a tie-up, but Alex instantly takes advantage, shoving Orton back to the ropes. Kendall goes to whip Orton across to the ropes, but he reverses, pulling Alex back in, lifting him up onto his shoulders into a powerbomb position, but Alex instantly spins around, hopping back and landing behind his foe. Orton spins around, trying to deck Alex with a clothesline which is ducked by Kendall, and when he tries to face the Champion again, he takes a dropkick to the leg and finally, a low spinning back kick to the chest.
Orton instantly pulls himself up, as Alex demands that he pick up the pace. Kendall wastes no time in going for a tie-up, which Orton manages to secure this time, switching to a waistlock that Kendall quickly breaks his way out of, grabbing Kurt's arm and locking him up in an arm wrench. Orton attempts to deal with the pain, dragging Alex over to the ropes and jumping off, using the middle rope to propel his weight into a flip, landing onto his back and sending Kendall over with an arm drag. Both men climb up to their feet, smirking to one another to a small applause from the crowd.
The two waste no time, with Alex instantly targeting the arm, trying to force the forearm over Kurt's forehead and bend him backwards, but Orton's power helps him persevere, kicking Alex in the gut and stunning him. Instantly, Kurt targets Alex with a headlock, dropping to one knee to try and secure the hold, but when Alex starts to resist, he swings himself round into a hammerlock. Kendall elbows Orton in the face, running to the ropes and hitting a shoulderblock, but Kurt manages to defend himself, sending Alex to the mat instead. Orton drops an elbow, but Alex dodges, Kendall attempts an elbow drop of his own, which also misses. Both men, again, glare at each other in a standoff.
Orton charges for Alex, who nearly sends him flying over himself with a low dropkick to the knee and sending him collapsing into the adjacent ropes. Kendall rushes, instantly pulled into a backdrop from the Prodigy. Alex thinks fast, landing on the apron of the ring, being careful not to fall. Orton turns, seeing Alex telling him to come get him, but nonetheless, the Dark Horse jumps up on the second rope, flying over the top and attempting to pull Orton into a tornado DDT, but Kurt uses his weight advantage, to simply place Kendall on the floor, before lifting him up and planting him frontside with a standing spinebuster.
Orton doesn't stop there, hooking both of Kendall's legs under his arms and falling back and sending Alex flying with a catapult, but Alex reaches out, quickly grabbing the top rope and securing his feet on the middle, self righting himself. Kurt turns, going to attack Alex, but Kendall leaps backwards, over a ducking Orton and landing on all fours, reaching between Kurt's legs and taking him by both forearms, pulling them through and sending him literally falling over himself, before quickly dropping an elbow across his chest, and then a second one. Orton quickly manages to pull himself up, but Alex runs to the ropes, flying over him before he manages to prop himself up in a sunset flip, but never manages to secure the hold, and Orton rolls right out of the hold, securing Kendall's legs and flying over him in a bridge, but only to get himself back up to his feet.
Alex climbs up only a second before Orton, and is lifted up, dropped chest first across the top rope. He turns around, momentarily stunned, but it's long enough for Orton to pound across his chest with a hard knife-edge chop. Alex returns the blow, followed by two more, but Kurt manages to stop him dead in his tracks after a solid kick to the gut, dropping Alex with a headlock takedown and holding on for the submission, but Kendall manages to mulekick up, scissoring Orton's head and managing to pull him into an armbar in his moment of weakness, but Orton kips up himself, breaking out of the hold, but still holds on for his arm for a short second. Kendall literally pounces onto him, pressing him into the corner and pounding away at his forehead.
Orton eventually reaches up, taking Alex by the throat. At first Kendall resists, but instead decides just to climb high up the turnbuckle, crouching down to keep balance, but repeatedly stomping down on the shoulders of Orton until he releases, before hopping back and landing on his feet. Kendall charges, but runs right into Orton's boot, backing him up, as Orton flies out of the corner and nails him with a huge clothesline. Kurt instantly pulls Alex up to his feet, locking him up in a suplex position and lifting him up, except Alex pushes himself back down, locking up Orton in the same position and hitting a snap suplex of his own instead.
Kendall shakes off the effect of the clothesline, just as Orton pulls himself up to his feet. Alex batters down on his back, but has his legs pulled out from under him, as Orton pulls Alex into a basic leg stretch, over extending the left knee. Kendall cries out in pain, trying to escape the hold, but Kurt keeps it locked tight. It's only when Alex kicks Orton in the chest repeatedly, that he's forced to release, but no sooner that he does, Orton manages to grab the leg again, dropping an elbow onto it and continuing to stretch. Kendall writhes, struggling until he's able to land a lucky kick in the jaw of Orton and forces him off. Alex rolls back to the far corner of the ring, resetting the pace.
Orton doesn't waste a second, charging at Kendall right off the bat looking for a big clothesline, only to have his intended blow ducked. Letting his momentum carry him, the Prodigy bounces of the ropes, looking to his the clothesline on the rebound, but again Kendall ducks out of the way. Orton rebounds and this time it looks like he's intending to charge in for a shoulder block, but Kendall just doesn't give him the chance, catching him flush in the jaw with a beautiful forearm shot that drops Orton like a rock. Shane is quick to press the advantage, delivering a pair of hard stomp-kicks to the top of the stunned Orton's head, sending him rolling across the ring to get away.
Realising there's not much he can do in this situation, Alex backs off, catching his own breath and waiting for Orton to come to him. Kurt checks his jaw and slowly drags himself up. Once again, Alex and Kurt begin to circle each other, but Kendall is more aggressive, feinting and throwing out the occasional sidekick to see how much Kurt flinches. Eventually, Orton takes the bait and throws a big right cross, but Alex seizes on it like a fly trap, grabbing the arm and immediately swinging him down with an armdrag. He tries to sync in an armbar using his knee, but isn't quite able to and Orton weaves away. Kurt gets frustrated and tries to go straight for a spear - but Alex immediately syncs his arm around his head in a front facelock and Orton backs off immediately, not wanting to fall prey to the Acid Test again. Even the crowd seems to gasp in relief as Kurt backs off, cautiously holding his throat. Kendall just smiles.
Kendall gets a little overconfident. Attempting the same again allows Kurt to mimic him and land a solid kick against his already targetted leg. The half step backwards is just what Orton needs as a cue to step in and Alex tries to stop him with a clinch. Orton swings around into a waistlock and manhandles Alex to the floor, practically throwing him stomach down. He swings around into a front facelock of his own, pulls himself up and lands a solid punt into the side of the ribs of Kendall, knocking the wind right out of him. Alex quickly pulls himself up but ends up retreating into the ropes, taking two more knees to the midsection. Orton goes to whip him across, but Kendall reverses - only to get pulled right back into a third knee to the midsection.
Pressing the advantage he's gained, Orton is able to secure the advantage going for an arm wrench, but Alex manages to weave under, staggering Orton back with a hard forearm to the chest. He dives in, trying to go for the legs, but Orton rolls over his back and grabs him in a waistlock, pulling him up to his feet fully. Kendall goes for the arm, locking him up in a hammerlock only to take an elbow to the side of the head and get staggered back himself. Both men rush in once again, and there's yet another lockup. Kendall wrenches the arm once and then twice, bringing Orton down to the mat. Orton kips up, reversing the arm wrench and pulling Kendall in with a low fireman's carry to the mat.
Kendall pulls him up by the wrist and goes for another arm wrench, pulling him in and leg sweeping him to the mat frontways, forcing him down to both knees. As he's trying to get up, Orton delivers a solid kick to the midsection that leaves Kendall rolling into a corner, grasping his ribs and gasping for air, temporarily winded. Orton rushes in, going for a right hand, only to get ducked under and pushed into the corner. Alex quickly sandwiches him with a clothesline and goes to whip him across. It's reversed, and then reversed again, and Kendall pulls him up and down in a lightning fast powerslam. Cover is made, but only a one count received. Kendall pulls him up, locking him up in a headlock.
It's not long before Orton is climbing up to his feet, elbowing Kendall in the midsection twice and lifting him up for a back bodydrop, but a few punches to the head bring Kendall back down to have his feet on the ground again. Instead, Kendall finds himself getting forearms rammed into his kidneys. Orton shoves him forward, and just as he hits the ropes, Kurt charges and clotheslines him solid, bringing him down to the mat. Alex tries to roll away, but already he's starting to show a little fatigue and is slightly rocked from the blow, allowing Kurt to quickly pull him up. He whips Alex across, ducking down for a back body drop, only for Alex to immediately shoot over the top of him and tries to pull him into a schoolboy. It's obvious that Orton's going to kick out and Kendall knows it, immediately changing his grip to a spinning toe hold.
Orton manages to fight, eventually reaching up and grabbing Alex by the hair. He pulls Kendall in for a small package, but the hold is broken and both men are climbing up before a single count is made. Kendall lashes out, nailing Orton with one of his trademark forearm shots and backs him up to the ropes. Two more forearm shots in rapid succession follow, and a knife edge chop to the chest. Kurt shoves Alex back and nails him across the chest of his own. Alex takes a half step backwards, staring down at his own chest, and then looks up with a grin. The challenge, as they say, is accepted.
Kendall throws a vicious knife edge chop of his own, and then immediately drops his guard, inviting Orton to return the favour. He does, and before anyone knows quite what’s happening, both men are taking turns in trading ever increasingly more vicious chops to the chest, each strike harder than the last. As the smacks echo around the arena and blood vessels begin to burst beneath the skin, the crowd grows louder and louder. The chop battle seems to end with a tie, with both men getting forehead to forehead in the intensity, muttering taunts to each other, before breaking away and immediately socking each other with rapid fire right hands. The crowd goes berserk.
Neither man seems to be losing any steam, until eventually Kendall – with his near superhuman stamina – comes out ontop, throwing in a series of forearms that backs Kurt into the corner, and the shots keep coming. He takes a step backwards, running up for a leaping forearm, only to be quite literally speared out of midair to the mat. No sooner than Alex’s back hits the canvas does everyone realise – especially Orton – that the Acid Test is locked tight! His legs flail and immediately latch onto the bottom rope. Kendall releases the hold before the referee even prompts him to, despite his clear frustration about it.
Orton begins to pull himself up, but Alex is quickly onto him, summoning all his strength to throw Kurt to the mat with a gutwrench suplex, covering but getting a solid kick out at two. Alex seems to know full well that wasn’t going to do the job, and spends his time of recovery trying to pick a limb to work down next. Eventually, he does for the legs, stomping down at them and lifting them up, trying to lock in what seems to be a cloverleaf, only to be shoved away. Orton slowly recovers, but Kendall stops that by rushing in and jamming a knee straight into his jaw. As Orton goes down, Kendall covers again, but once again a strong kickout at two from the Prodigy.
Kendall pulls Orton up, wrenching the arm around and driving an elbow into Kurt’s own elbow, and then a second, finally wrenching the arm again over his shoulders and using it as leverage for a takedown. When Kurt hits the mat, Alex syncs up into a wristlock, with Kurt slowly maneuvering his way up to his feet. He breaks loose with a series of back elbows at Alex’s stomach, but Kendall is quick to move in – only to be taken down out of nowhere by Orton’s namesake’s superfast powerslam! Leg is hooked, but only a one count given.
Kendall seems to be shaken enough for Orton to take advantage, using his weight advantage to drive an elbow straight into the ribs. As Kendall works his way up, Orton seems to take an almost sadistic glee at taking him and just throwing him, shoulder first, into the corner post. Kendall staggers his way out, but is brought to one knee by a double axehandle to the back. The champion tries to pull himself up, but is quickly suplexed back into the centre of the ring. He’s covered by a floatover pin, but kicks out strongly at one. This time, it’s Orton that’s starting to look frustrated.
Orton pulls Kendall up and throws him straight into the corner, defaulting to the shining wizard into a bulldog combination. Another cover is made, but only a two count given. Seeing that now might be his best chance, he tries to lock Kendall in the Head Hunter, but Alex is far too fresh. When getting his arm free doesn’t seem like it’s going to be the most valid escape, he simply headbutts Orton, causing the challenger to back away. Alex climbs up to his feet, only to be immediately staggered by a spinkick to the ribs. Fuming, Alex lunges with a forearm to the face. Orton counters with a Spinning Backfist. Kendall counters again with a Roaring Elbow. Both men, dazed and confused, go for tandem Superkicks, catching each other in the jaw and sending them both to the mat.
Both men slowly pull themselves up, meeting in the middle of the ring and seeming to use each other for leverage. Orton seems to be getting up first, when Kendall suddenly uses his lowered position to get Orton up on his shoulders, trying to spin him around for Vae Vi—Orton lands on his feet, quickly swinging a clothesline that Alex ducks under – german suplex into a bridge! One, two—kickout by Orton.
Alex seems sure that was it, but doesn’t bother contesting it. He quickly jumps up on Orton’s back and syncs him up into a dragon sleeper, but Kurt doesn’t stay down long enough to let the cramp in his neck really kick in. He lifts Alex up and brings him straight into the corner, rallying some elbows off the side of the champion’s head. As he staggers out, Kendall rushes in, only to be nailed by an overhead belly to belly. Kendall practically bounces off the mat, and grabs Orton up, flinging him down with a t-bone suplex. Orton in turn, rushes to give him a northern lights suplex. Kendall all but kips up, and grabs Kurt when he doesn’t expect it from behind, crumpling him into the mat with a half-nelson suplex and...staying down. Both men lie on their backs, desperately panting for air.
Not deterred by the fact they’re quickly running out of suplexes, Kendall crawls to the ropes and uses that as leverage to pull himself up, while Orton stays on one knee in the middle of the ring. Kendall rushes up, going for a shining wizard of his own, but Orton uses his forearms to block, forcing Kendall’s leg down and cracking him across the jaw with a solid right hand. Alex backs up, putting some distance between him and Orton with a superkick to the midsection, only for a huge sweep to his bad leg to bring him down. Orton tries to hook him into a uranage for the Head Hunter again, but Kendall forces him down into a front facelock with solid elbows. Not letting him do the Acid Test either, Kurt sweeps his legs out from under him and forces his legs into an Indian deathlock.
It’s a long, painful and desperate crawl to the ropes, but Kendall doesn’t give up. Kurt takes until the referee’s count of three to finally release the hold, and even as Alex tries to pull himself up, he’s still stomping at the champion’s legs. Forcing Alex across the ropes, two hard chops across his chest strike what’s already long red raw, backing up and looking for a clothesline. Alex ducks down looking for a back body drop to the outside, but it’s a bit pre-emptive, as Orton simply stops and punts Kendall right in the mouth, dropping him to the mat.
Kurt grabs the legs and drags him into the middle of the ring, but Alex fights all the way, forcing himself up and hopping around. Orton knows the enziguri is coming and baits it by sticking his head out. As Alex misses, Orton immediately drops down across the leg and goes straight into an STF. Again, it’s another long, awful struggle, but through his screams and the roar of the crowd, Kendall is able to make it to the ropes again. This time, it takes until 4 for Kurt to let go of the hold.
Kurt picks Alex up, going to whip him across, and nails him in the midsection with a knee, sending him straight over. Seeming to enjoy how the man he once so admired writhes on the canvas, Kurt picks Alex up and does it again – completely not expecting what Alex does next. No sooner than Kendall’s back leaves the ropes, he takes flight, one leg stuck straight out while the other curls up, smashing Orton right in the jaw with a Busaiku High Knee!
With fire in his eyes, Kendall’s not done, grabbing Orton’s legs and spinning him over into his trademark Cloverleaf. Orton cries out, all but pulling his hair out of its roots in his attempt not to tap.
Kendall bends his spine all the more millimetre by millimetre, the more Orton crawls towards the ropes. Alex legs go, just before Kurt grabs them and immediately robs him of that hope, pulling him straight to his feet in a single heartbeat and planting the challenger’s head into the mat with a dragon suplex! There’s the bridge; one, two...NO!
The Dark Horse has to take a deep breath to calm himself, instead catching his breath by idly kicking at Orton’s head and ribs as he tries to get up. Orton lashes out with a wide shot, but Alex is able to sidestep out of the way. As Orton pulls himself up to his feet, Alex is right there, nailing him in the midsection with a knee and trying to lock on an abdominal stretch only to be sent straight down with a hiptoss. As Orton tries to lock on a sleeper, Kendall jolts his leg straight up and rams his knee directly into Kurt’s crown, sending him onto his backside. Kendall swings his leg around, and taking a page out of Toshiaki Kawada’s book, drills his foot directly into Orton’s neck. Cover is made; one...two...kickout!
Alex is quickly beginning to realise that he can’t screw around with this any longer. Another deep breath is taken, and he pulls Orton up to his feet, shoving him into the corner and driving forearm after forearm into the small of his back. He lifts Orton up onto the top turnbuckle and follows, looking for a backdrop off the top, only to be elbowed repeatedly in the head and sent crashing down onto his own back. Alex quickly recovers, seeing Orton preparing to dive down onto him – and catches him in midair with a frontside lungblower!
Somehow Orton doesn’t quite stay down from that, sitting up clutching his chest, and Kendall has to throw him down to the mat before he covers; one...two...kickout by Orton. Slightly frustrated, Alex pulls him up and repeatedly hammers his head down into the mat with more forearm strikes before getting a very rare warning from the referee. Admittedly impressed by Orton’s resilience, Kendall goes to pull him up one more time, only to be thrown down neck first across the middle rope. As he gasps for the breath of air he just missed, Orton himself quickly seizes a backdrop, bridging it perfectly for a cover; one...two...kickout by Kendall.
Making up for lost time, Orton goes with what worked again, lifting Alex up and bringing him down neck first onto the top rope. Again, as Alex chokes, he’s immediately brought up and down onto the top rope with a gourdbuster, and left through to the outside of the apron. Orton drags Kendall through the middle rope, letting his feet dangle before planting him with his adoptive father’s Hangman DDT. Cover is made; one...two...defiant kickout from the champion!
Realising it’s hard to hit your finisher the way you’re used to with your opponent already practically unconscious, Orton tries to force Kendall to his feet, trying to look for the leverage to hit the Quick Impact DDT, but eventually just defaults for a straight front facelock. Alex seems to have been playing possum, rushing forward with a huge surge of strength and forcing Orton into the corner, nailing him with a shoulder block to the stomach, and then another, and then another, and another.
Kendall backs up, looking for a forearm, but Orton catches him in a clinch, throwing Alex into the corner instead. He backs up, looking for a tackle of his own, but Kendall raises a knee into his jaw. As Orton staggers back, Kendall leaps off the second rope and coils around Orton into a tornado DDT. He rolls through, clinging on and locking in the Acid Test in the middle of the ring!
As soon as he’s recovered from the shock, the seconds tick agonisingly by. Ten seconds, twenty...and then Orton tries to bend his neck backwards. Slowly but surely loosening Alex’s grip on the side of his head, rather than his neck, Orton seems to have a plan in mind...but perhaps not the oxygen left to pull it off.
Eventually, Orton is able to get his head free of the guillotine – and before Kendall can react, Orton goes straight for the arm that had his neck trapped a second ago, wrenching Alex’s own head into the Head Hunter!
Kendall tries Orton’s own technique of trying to loosen the grip, but it’s a lot harder with only one arm of his own. With a little reasoning, with it looking like we’re about to see a new champion, Kendall starts lifting knees, striking Orton in the back of the head!
Orton himself isn’t without some tricks. Just when it looks like his grip is about to buckle, he shifts forward, increasing the pressure on Alex’s neck and arm and putting his head just out of reach. The screams the champion is emitting can be heard up even in the cheap seats.
But again, Orton has left a gap in his defense. He hasn’t moved his back out of range either. It takes a little bit of contorting on Kendall’s part, but one sharp knee right into the spine, seems to be all that’s needed to get the grip to loosen long enough for Alex to get his head loose. He tries to lock in the Acid Test once again, but Orton climbs up to his feet and Kendall goes along for the ride. As soon as both men are on their feet, Kendall swings into another Roaring Elbow and clocks Orton straight in the nose. It takes all his effort, but he hoists Orton up onto his shoulders and brings him down with the Vae Victis!
The crawl towards Orton is a slow and painful one, but Kendall manages to throw himself over.
One.
Two.
Orton kicks out.
The referee’s hand was an inch away from the mat, and Orton kicks out.
Kendall is absolutely furious, but knows better than to waste time arguing with the referee. He pulls Orton straight up to his feet, not even allowing the Prodigy the decency of standing under his own power, holding his head with one hand while the other pounds forearm after vicious forearm into his face, bending him over and planting him back into the mat with a hellacious jumping piledriver! Cover again!
One...two...Orton kicks out again!
Kendall stares at that one shoulder, hanging defiantly in the air as a sign that the ghost hasn’t quite been given up yet. He pulls Orton up to his feet, trying to get him up onto his shoulders for one more Vae Victis, but Kurt’s practically dead weight at this point. When he finally does get him up, he’s so exhausted from his previous exertions that he can’t do much but hold him there, and eventually has to set Orton down. Panting, it seems like Kendall’s the one holding Orton up...when Orton suddenly flings Kendall to the ground with a Uranage and locks on the Head Hunter again!
Orton doesn’t seem to know where he is, having locked the hold on out of pure instinct. His nose is bloody and his eyes are sealed shut, and Kendall uses this daziness to his advantage, able to weave out of the hold without it being properly locked in. Both men climb up to their feet and return to their earlier default, this time out of more of a shared panic of what it takes to put the other man down – they simply slug each other right hands in a seemingly endless barrage.
One hard right shot forces Kendall to the ropes, that he springboards off and runs up, nailing Orton directly with a dropkick he puts the force of his entire body behind. Orton staggers backwards, hanging onto the top rope for support, only for a running yakuza kick to practically cleave his face off. Kendall lifts him up one more time, and as he swings, Orton coils himself around...
...and hits the Quick Impact DDT!
Orton rolls Kendall over, hooking the leg.
One...
Two...
Alex Kendall kicks out!
Dazed, confused, but still not victorious, Orton seethes. He pounds the mat furiously, pulling Alex up to his feet. Alex doesn’t seem conscious, and even less so when Orton slaps him. And then again. Then a spinning backfist. A high sidekick to the head, that somehow, still doesn’t drop him. Orton runs to the ropes, jumps, and plants him with another Quick Impact DDT.
One.
Two.
Three.
No. Kendall kicks out again.
Orton is practically screaming, picking Kendall up again – who suddenly gains a lease of life and sprints forward, pushing Orton through the middle rope and out to the floor. The match, which up until this point had remained entirely in the ring, spills nastily onto the outside floor, with both competitors looking like they’re not going to reach a count of 100, let alone a count of 10. Regardless, the referee has no choice but to count.
One.
No sign of life.
Two.
Nothing.
Three.
Orton twitches slightly, but still no visible sign of life other than the rising and falling of his chest.
Four. Five.
Alex’s eyes open. That’s a good sign.
Six.
The referee’s count has noticeably slowed, not wanting this to end on a double countout as much as any other man. Kendall slowly rolls onto his side, whereas Orton stretches out as if he was just waking up from a long dream.
Seven.
Both men, as if instinctive, crawl towards the apron. They’re doing something that could almost be described as standing up.
Eight.
Kendall lifts a leg, trying to get back in. It falls, but the second attempt allows him to get up. Orton just seems to have lay his entire torso under the bottom rope.
Nine.
One, last final push from both men – and they’re back in the ring. The crowd bursts into open applause.
Kendall spits up a mouthful of blood onto the mat as Orton moves to the corner to start to pull himself up. Alex moves to the ropes and begins to use those. Orton takes a step towards him and rocks Alex with a much slower – but also much harder chop than their earlier exchanges. Kendall rocks, crying out, and immediately returns it. There’s no sign of their bulletproof selves from earlier, and the chops are clearly beginning to sting that much more. That, and they barely seem to have the energy to throw them.
The chop battle continues for what seems like an eternity, when suddenly – almost by accident, a chop catches Kendall in the throat rather than the chest, and causes him to gag, dropping to one knee. Orton spots an opportunity, and rushes in, but Kendall grasps around his neck with The Acid Test, not even bothering to hit the DDT first; legs grapevine around the waist as he clinches tighter and tighter around the throat.
Tighter and tighter – Orton begins to stagger.
He drops to one knee.
And just as it looks like his fire is about to go out...another one lights.
He pulls himself up, and hooks a front facelock of his own on – and swings Kendall around into a cradled Quick Impact DDT!
Alex crumples up in a heap, and Orton is forced to pant for air of his own. When he realises what he’s done, he forces himself to crawl towards Kendall. The best he can manage for a ‘pin’ is to put a single hand on the champion’s chest.
One.
Two.
Kickout by Alex Kendall!
Well, to call it a kickout would be generous. It was closer to a flail or a spasm. Either way, it did the intended job of getting his shoulder off the canvas, and the referee has no choice but to let the match continue. Orton glares daggers at Kendall, whose own eyes seem to have rolled into the back of his head, and he realises what has to be done. He picks Alex up – whose immediate reflex, like a Viper, is to go straight back to the Acid Test.
But he doesn’t even have the strength to clinch it anymore.
Orton knees him in the midsection and hits another DDT.
Hooks the leg.
One.
Two.
THR—Alex kicks out one more time.
The crowd is screaming, practically pleading for him to not kick out anymore. But Alex doesn’t even let go of Kurt. He tries to use him to pull himself back up, and puts his arm around his neck, desperately trying to lock on that one last Acid Test.
But Kurt passes it.
He locks Alex up for the Head Hunter – and twists it around, inventing a new finisher right on the spot. With the head and arm hooked for the anaconda vice, Kurt Orton drills Alex Kendall’s head into the center of the canvas.
He hooks the leg.
One.
Two.
Three.
